Yesterday a convicted felon and rapist was voted in by millions of people to become arguably the most powerful leader in the world. About two hours into watching the polls, surrounded by good friends and comforting food, we knew. We were silent, anxiously checking our phones for other publicationsโ projections, hoping it might magically change. Eventually we woke up to the news that this country is once again a terrifying place for immigrants, women, trans people and all marginalised communities to exist in. Itโs impossible to say how sad I am for anyone who lives here.
I made this for our lunch the other day when vegetables were necessary after days of eating various forms of bread at every meal. To me, this is perfect with bitter leaves, deep orange pumpkin (or in this case, persimmons, because itโs still 22ยบC in LA!) and roasted nuts. We threw in some charred broccoli and a few shavings of goat gouda (revelation!).
