Leftovers #91
New York comes to Mayfair (and yes, we're going there, too); essays on the collapse of feminism and critiquing the internet; non-alc aperitif cocktails to try.
This picture really sums up my lifestyle right now (really only missing a bowl of buttery, crispy rice and eggs). All I want to do is be cocooned in a cabin in winter, growing hardy little vegetables outside and lighting fires and not having to think about how I’ll spend £30 by just stepping outside my front door.

On a more positive note, I just ate two perfect boiled eggs with heavily buttered toast (I’m so obsessed with this Bertinent Bakery seeded sourdough; could care less about bakeries, let’s go back to buying bread from the supermarket). I kept slathering extra layers of salted French butter my friend Coco brought back from Paris for me, stood up at the counter, crumbs and seeds spilling onto the floor, constantly reaching for the salt, the pepper, the butter.
Thinking
– About City On Fire, a 950 page tome that I’m currently reading after binge-watching the series on Apple TV. The book is definitely better than the show. Set in 1976, the shooting of a beautiful girl in Central Park brings together nine seemingly disparate characters from all over the city in an explosive way.
– About the culture of tradwives and the woman who’s culturally in the centre of it – at least in the digital media world – Hannah Neeleman from Ballerina Farm (this piece by Anne Helen Petersen is a great overview). She gave birth two weeks ago and now she’s competing to be Mrs World (New York Times).
– How this man made a fire and fried an egg using an egg shell, oil and a paper towel as the heat source; and how this perfect pup bought cabbage for his owner (I’m crying).
