I am not a city break person. I like long, languorous stays, months at a time; to never feel like a tourist (rather, a house guest that hasn’t quite made up their mind whether they’ll stay forever or leave tomorrow). Two and a half days in Amsterdam was plenty for me. Two of those days were spent working, admittedly, and I could have done with a couple more meals out; but it’s enough time for me to peer into a new city before I start to itch for home. Paris is next. Then New York in November. A few small stays to get excited about, then back to London for the winter where I’ll be cooking Korean stews, roasting chickens and squash, swimming at the ponds sans crowds and stocking up on red wine.
