It’s been a week of realising how great London can be. Tiring, too. It’s my first time at London Design Festival, where I’ve been happily scooting between events, and trying not to fall back into the habit of avoiding strangers for fear of being the least interesting person in the room. Another social learning curve. Very few meals in, but still: fluffy lamb meatballs laced with sheep’s yoghurt; tomato-drenched wavy fusilli lunghi; late night noodles coated in gochujang, smashed garlic and ginger and lashings of soy sauce; the usual order from Dumpling Shack add-on a crispy chive pancake. Would recommend. Effervescent sparkling pet nat and smooth, strong cocktails at 2am. Crisps in between the fight off the hunger, and a couple of Waitrose wraps, too. The salt beef bagel from Good Egg eaten in the studio courtyard we danced in last weekend. Many, many pints. I’m looking over at my copy of The Lonely City by Olivia Laing and thinking, no, this one feels quite full. Here are this week’s recipes and recommendations, from a very sleep-deprived – but happy – person.
