It was a tactical move to avoid the London heatwave. I am sweaty at the best of times, so removing myself from 40ºC weather in the glass building lined city felt like the obvious choice. Luckily two friends left me their flat in Penryn while they similarly escaped to Ireland, and I set up camp in the town I once lived in years ago. And while I am eternally grateful to be able to pop back to the coast, to swim in empty coves and see old friends, I’m happy to be returning to the city. I’ve eaten enough bread and pasties. I’ve missed fresh pasta. And rice. Although tonight will be a feast of local Cornish potatoes and green beans and nasturtiam-laced lettuce from Trevallan Farm and the tiniest yellow courgette, but there’s also going to be fresh fish from Fin & Flounder and also multiple bottles of wine. Here are a few recipes and recommendations to see you through the slightly less wavy heat.
