I’ve noticed a correlation between not cooking and not writing. Recipes have been somewhat absent, and words have been swirling inside my head or in conversations with friends but have not been flowing from my fingertips. So whilst I gather my thoughts and try to find a way of organising them so that when I do eventually return with an essay, it follows some sort of through line, I’ve pulled together a selection of archive pieces. Next week I’ll be sending a ‘32 things I learned in 32 years’ piece, and after that I’ll have hopefully returned to being a writer who cooks. Until then, enjoy a selection of my better words as ranked by Substack’s algorithm:
#1. Broken Hearts & Broken Appetites
#3. The Importance Of Rest (In And Out Of The Kitchen)
#5. An Ode To Kie-Jo, Expert Kimchi Maker
#7. A Case For Living Closer To Your Friends
#8. The Symbolism Of White Rice
#9. Your Fair Share
