🎧 Since You Asked... With Meg Abbott
Testing out some audio content where we discuss thoughts on 'what's good for you'.
The thing about writing is that it can be a pretty solitary experience. I don’t have an editor (should probably get one), and often the ideas for my weekly essay arrive quite suddenly, and I write in somewhat of a frenzy. This indicates that I should be slightly less haphazard with my entries, but also told me that it might be helpful to discuss these ideas either before or even after writing them down. So I thought I’d try something new – by inviting guests to talk about SNOA topics as they come up, over a glass of something strong. I popped over to my friend Meg’s house before dinner the other afternoon, and we spent 40 minutes talking about spaciousness, rest and the challenge of knowing what’s good for you, all topics I tried to cover in my last essay.
Let me know in the comments how you feel about this new format – which, is absolutely rough and ready. We recorded it on my phone and I didn’t do any editing because a) I don’t know how to and b) I thought I’d see if it’s actually interesting enough to turn into something more…
If anything, it’s really highlighted to me how inarticulate I can be when I’m not writing, and also how much I say ‘like’, which, in the words of Hallie from The Parent Trap, is a horrid habit.
Also, the two recommendations Meg offered at the end of the pod are:
The Book: Fire Island by Jack Parlett
The Recipe: Molly Baz’s One-Pot Gingery Chicken & Rice
Took me ages to listen to as I'm not very good with podcasts, but listened to it on this not-so-good morning (hey cramps). It felt like I was hanging out with friends while doing my hair and makeup (I'm literally not seeing anyone today, but felt like making myself feel better). I liked it. I'd listen to more of them, it just sounds like conversations I'd have with my own friends, so I relate. I didn't notice a need for editing, or an overuse of any word, either ;)
